    In the 8/15/00 issue of the Journal of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndromes, the authors report on the ability of coinfection with HIV and TB to speed up the mutation rates in the V3 regions of the env sequence. TB is epidemic in Africa where the HIV pandemic is considered to have started.
