DJ:
Michael Bivins (New Edition/Bell Biv Devoe)

In Game DJ
Name:
Philip “PM” Michaels

Bio: Michael Bivins first found fame as a
founding member of teen R&B sensations, New Edition, whose hits included
“Cool It Now” and “Mr. Telephone Man” in the mid-80’s. By the late 80’s,
however, with the members growing up and into their own, New Edition began to
experience some inner turmoil and the group effectively split up to work on
other project. Bivins, along with fellow New Edition members Ricky Bell and
Ronnie DeVoe, decided to start their own group with a markedly different
approach called Bell Biv DeVoe. The results were quite unlike anything in href="http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=11:9yez97q7kr5t">New Edition’s
repertoire: The beats were funkier, the lyrics and vocals were sexier, and the
overall sound had a harder, hip-hop-tinged edge. Their debut album’s title
track, “Poison,” became a number three smash, and it was followed by
the equally successful “Do Me!” and the R&B hits “B.B.D. (I
Thought it Was Me),” “When Will I See You Smile Again?,” and
“Dope!” The album itself went on to sell over three million copies
and was followed by a remix album the next year. Meanwhile, href="http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=11:qgug6j7h7180">Bivins took some
time off to assemble the East Coast Family, discovering and producing debut
albums for href="http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=11:51uj6j4h71r0">Another Bad Creation
and href="http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=11:ntkvu3t5an1k">Boyz II Men.
