Atari announced the forthcoming release of Bandai’s One Piece: Grand Battle, the action fighter based on the enormously popular Japanese anime franchise One Piece. Faithful to the pirate-themed anime TV series and packed full of familiar characters, the game is scheduled for release on PlayStation®2 this coming September.
In One Piece: Grand Battle players take the role of one of 16 individual pirates, including the lead character from the series, Monkey D. Luffy, or any one of 32 additional characters, each boasting a repertoire of over 20 moves. Using their buccaneer skills, players battle through seven varied and vibrant gameplay stages with the goal of becoming king of the pirates.
“The faithful rendering of the One Piece pirate universe in One Piece: Grand Battle is sure to please fans of the franchise,” said Cyril Voiron, Marketing Director, Atari Europe. “At the same time, the excellent graphics, colourful characters and top quality fighting action also provide a great experience for fans of the genre whether or not they are familiar with One Piece.”
Impressive graphics, environments and character animations provide the backdrop for kick-ass combat where players must master a range of punches, kicks, special attacks and combos to get the better of their opponents. Special attacks include the ability to throw items and use the environments in all kinds of weird and wonderful ways to affect the performance of opponents, such as launching an attack of bees to temporarily invert their controls.
With a vast array of characters to choose from, a range of devious challenges to conquer, seven stages to fight through, and six gameplay modes including multiplayer modes for between 2 and 4 players, there’s plenty of exciting skulduggery to savour. One Piece: Grand Battle is scheduled for release on PlayStation2 this September 2005.
