Graham McTavish nasce nel 1961 a Glasgow in Scozia.

Ha recitato in numerosissime serie TV e film ma senza mai raggiungere un grande successo. Tra i suoi lavori più importanti ci sono partecipazioni ai serial Casuality, Lost e Prison Break e ad alcuni film celebri come John Rambo e King Arthur.
Negli ultimi anni si è dedicato soprattutto al doppiaggio di videogiochi.

Nell’ottobre 2010 viene annunciato che McTavish interpreterà il nano Dwalin ne Lo Hobbit.
